Crochet Baskets and Cross Stitch

I have promised in my last post on crochet that I was going to share my crochet baskets next. Well, I did not like them enough to share with you so far as they were plain white. I thought different options to beautify them. Cross stitch was on my list of crafts to be learnt asap. I have never done a single cross stitch before. So, I thought, this is a chance to start learning.

I do not know why I am trying to learn everything from the hard ways but that is in my nature. I must admit that cross stitching on crochet is not easy. Especially if the crochet is in double crochets. Single crochet would be a lot easier to work on. If you are going to try cross stitching on crochets, I would suggest to do it on single crochet projects.

I did not crochet the baskets according to a pattern. But I have inspired by Versusmag's pattern. I have just customized it a little bit. I just preferred the baskets to be in the same height but in different radius. However, being in the same height made them hard to realize the differences in dimensions. So I made them pose like this:

To customize the baskets, I have worked single crochets on top of each one in turquoise. You will see this yarn more until I can manage to finish it as I love its color so much!

Now, let us get a closer look to the cross stitches. You may find lots of mistakes but please ignore them since this was my first cross stitch trial and it was quite challenging.

I have got the heart pattern from here. In fact, she proved to me that cross stitch can look good on crochets. That gave me the courage to try.

Tiny butterfly and umbrella patterns are from here. There is a mistake in the butterfly I guess but I could not figure out where it is coming from, me or the pattern. When I stitched according to the pattern, two cross stitches in the last row made the wing look like it is injured. I tried three, it became a little better but not as much as I preferred. I will have to live with this one for the beginning.

You can use crochet baskets in many places at home; in bathrooms, craft rooms, bedrooms or even in the living rooms. I have put mine on my working desk to keep them in my sight all the time as I loved them so much!
