Home Decorating Wisely and Cheaply

Home decorating magazines, stores and the websites give you the impression that decorating home is an instant process like you can change your home overnight. Well, if you do not have a good amount of money in your pocket, this is just a big dream. In reality home decorating is a long journey costing us time and lots of money.

If you are trying to save money, you will like the following budget friendly ideas as this post is focused on how to decorate your home wisely and cheaply.

Know your style

First of all, you need to know which home decorating styles do you like. If you already, the rest is easier for you. But if you don't, than you will need to spean some time online to check the home decorating websites to see which one(s) you like the most. The best resource for me is Houzz. I strongly recommend to visit the website and see home decorating examples according to all decoration styles.

Try to make multi-purpose choices

Home decorating is a never ending journey. So it would be good to make the choices wisely. Using easy colors on the walls and furniture gives you flexibility in the future to move around and combine objects in the other rooms.

If you need a new furniture which you cannot afford, try alternative solutions. I needed an extra shoe cabinet next to my coat stand. However, I am unemployed at the moment and I cannot afford for it now. When I was doing the spring cleaning, I realized that my books are getting too much dust on the open shelves. I moved them to another bookcase with doors and the metal shelf unit I bought from Ikea was free. I have moved it next to the coat stand and now it is my new shoe stand. Great solution for free!

In the future, when I will be able to afford for a new shoe stand, I will use this metal shelf in my crafts room to organize my stuff. So, one shelf unit, many uses.

Search for alternative solutions

If you need a dining table and you cannot afford for it, try checking for alternatives like buying a second-hand table or a vintage piece sold online or on the garage sales. You may find much more beautiful models than the one you like to buy. Another solution could be to ask for your friends and relatives. They may be thinking of renewing furnitures and I am sure that they will be happy to give you the old table they have used. You can adjust the color or any other decor, you can change them for very low costs.

Never compromise on quality

Your monetary limitations on home decorating could lead you to make cheaper choices. This, however, would be the biggest mistake you could do for your home. Cheap and low quality furniture or decorative object would break down. So you may have to pay more to get it repaired or to get rid of it. It would be a wise way of thinking to borrow, buy second-hand alternatives or recycle than buying cheaply made stuff.

Try being creative and crafty

When I am decorating my home, I try to add unique pieces made by myself. I made a twin vase for example. If I was to buy a decorated vase from a shop, I may not be able to find the correct vase for me. Moreover, I would not like it more than the one I made.

This is a very easy example. You may paint all kinds of furniture and objects in any color you want. You may decorate them as you wish. All you need to do is to learn how to's. There are huge numbers of sources our in the internet teaching how to's on almost about anything you can think of. Just search for them and try doing it yourself. You will eventually have a unique home decoration which exactly reflects your taste.

In the future, I will post more on these kinds of ideas which makes home decorating a creative and personal journey. So, stay in touch.
